The 2018 Harlow Architectural Design Awards has now entered its final stage, with the announcement of a brilliant shortlist, proving once again what great new buildings there are in and around the town.
The public is now being asked to help pick the very best residential and non-residential buildings by voting for their favourite at this website.
The shortlist consists of 4 residential and 3 non-residential buildings, with a lot of variety in both categories, making the final decisions closer than ever this year.
On the residential side, the shortlist includes the two new-builds at 2 Keaton Way and 4 Forebury Lane, the restoration of Kingsmoor House (above), and the extension of 29 Kingsmoor Road.
The non-residential category again shows a wide range of entries, from business to community assets. The shortlist includes the Science Park’s highly innovative Kao Data One (top), the brand new Gates garage on Edinburgh Way and the stylish Smiles Montessori school in Newhall (below).

Organised by Harlow Civic Society and supported by founding sponsor Places for People and annual sponsor Architecture & Design Services, the Awards set out to celebrate the best examples of recent architecture, to encourage better design for the future of the town.
“This year’s clutch of entries shows again what can be done when architects and their clients – the owners and developers – work together in a creative way to make buildings that serve their purposes and are pleasing to the eye,” says Paul McLintic of Harlow Civic Society. “We want the public to share in our pleasure at the results and help us pick the best of this year’s best.”
Once the polls close on 14th September 2018 and all votes have been counted, the HADA panel will consider each building and, in light of the voting, select a winner in each category. The results will then be announced at an Awards ceremony at the Harlow Rugby Club on 14th October 2018. The Rugby Club is last year’s non-residential winner and is kindly donating the use of their splendid venue for this year’s awards.
