The Harlow Architectural Design Awards 2016 were officially launched this week, with a well-attended event at Parndon Mill, Harlow’s creative hub.
Local dignitaries including the leader of Harlow District Council, cllr John Clempner, were on hand for the unveiling of two recently-completed award trophies, and to view a new film produced especially for the awards.
Other notable attendees at the event included Julie Palmer (editor of media partners The Harlow Star), Mary Parsons (Group Director of award sponsors Places for People), and John Graham (one of the architects who worked on Harlow’s original 1947 masterplan).
Organised by Harlow Civic Society, the Harlow Architectural Design Awards (HADAs) aim to recognise the very best in residential and non-residential buildings in the town, as well as encouraging excellence in the design of Harlow’s future developments.
Throughout October, the public is invited to nominate its favourite residential and non-residential buildings in Harlow, via a simple online form.
All nominations received by October 31st will be considered for a shortlist in each award category. The public will then be invited to vote for their favourite shortlisted entry throughout November, with an expert panel deciding on an ultimate winner – to be announced in January 2017.
Paul McLintic, Secretary of Harlow Civic Society, said: “We’re delighted to have officially launched the Harlow Architectural Design Awards, and to see so many local figures supporting this important project in the town.
“Through these awards we hope to encourage a fresh appreciation of our heritage of town planning and architectural design so that future developments will be as sympathetic and harmonious with the landscape and the way people want to live.”
